Surrealist Quotes
"Have no fear of perfection you'll never reach it" by Salvador Dali
"intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings" by Salvador Dali
These are my favorite surrealist quotes. The first quote tells me that I don't need to strive to be perfect because i'm never gonna make it to the end of that road but I can strive to be the best I can be instead. The second quote tells me that intelligence isn't everything. You could be the smartest person in the world and just sit on your couch doing nothing but its ones who are driven that get things done.

"Awakenings" paragraph
In the poem “Awakenings” Robert Desnos describe his dream and sees a figure that seems like himself but not sure if it's his good self or bad self. He reverts to it as a “nocturnal visitor” and tells the story as if a stranger came and knocked on his door. What scares the speaker most is that this creature of unknowing nature could possibly be a reflection of his own self, thus questioning whether he, himself, is of impure nature. He begins to question the figure and then starts to realize that he regrets this image of himself. He says “There is no room on my hearth or in my heart for the old images of myself.” When waking up from a bad dream we often tell ourselves that we never want to meet that Dark Stranger of our dreams ever again. As a poet who desires so strongly to connect to the unconscious mind, Desnos realizes that encounters with the dark side of the psyche can be dangerous, but also rewarding, for these moments ultimately lead to the construction of new images that help us to understand the world.

"AFFORDABLE HOUSING: INCREASING THE LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF UNITS THE CITY AND CERTAIN PUBLIC AGENCIES ARE ALLOWED TO HELP DEVELOP.
Shall the voters increase by 38,680 the maximum number of housing units the City and certain other public agencies are allowed to help develop, construct, or acquire for people with low incomes, without this ballot measure approving specific housing units, providing funds for development, removing requirements that otherwise apply, or taking any other action?"

This poem is called "I am Waiting" by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
I am waiting for my case to come up
and I am waiting
for a rebirth of wonder
and I am waiting for someone
to really discover America
and wail
and I am waiting
for the discovery
of a new symbolic western frontier
and I am waiting
for the American Eagle
to really spread its wings
and straighten up and fly right
and I am waiting
for the Age of Anxiety
to drop dead
and I am waiting
for the war to be fought
which will make the world safe
for anarchy
and I am waiting
for the final withering away
of all governments
and I am perpetually awaiting
a rebirth of wonder
I am waiting for the Second Coming
and I am waiting
for a religious revival
to sweep thru the state of Arizona
and I am waiting
for the Grapes of Wrath to be stored
and I am waiting
for them to prove
that God is really American
and I am waiting
to see God on television
piped onto church altars
if only they can find
the right channel
to tune in on
and I am waiting
for the Last Supper to be served again
with a strange new appetizer
and I am perpetually awaiting
a rebirth of wonder
I am waiting for my number to be called
and I am waiting
for the Salvation Army to take over
and I am waiting
for the meek to be blessed
and inherit the earth
without taxes
and I am waiting
for forests and animals
to reclaim the earth as theirs
and I am waiting
for a way to be devised
to destroy all nationalisms
without killing anybody
and I am waiting
for linnets and planets to fall like rain
and I am waiting for lovers and weepers
to lie down together again
in a new rebirth of wonder
I am waiting for the Great Divide to be crossed
and I am anxiously waiting
for the secret of eternal life to be discovered
by an obscure general practitioner
and I am waiting
for the storms of life
to be over
and I am waiting
to set sail for happiness
and I am waiting
for a reconstructed Mayflower
to reach America
with its picture story and tv rights
sold in advance to the natives
and I am waiting
for the lost music to sound again
in the Lost Continent
in a new rebirth of wonder
I am waiting for the day
that maketh all things clear
and I am awaiting retribution
for what America did
to Tom Sawyer
and I am waiting
for Alice in Wonderland
to retransmit to me
her total dream of innocence
and I am waiting
for Childe Roland to come
to the final darkest tower
and I am waiting
for Aphrodite
to grow live arms
at a final disarmament conference
in a new rebirth of wonder
I am waiting
to get some intimations
of immortality
by recollecting my early childhood
and I am waiting
for the green mornings to come again
youth’s dumb green fields come back again
and I am waiting
for some strains of unpremeditated art
to shake my typewriter
and I am waiting to write
the great indelible poem
and I am waiting
for the last long careless rapture
and I am perpetually waiting
for the fleeing lovers on the Grecian Urn
to catch each other up at last
and embrace
and I am awaiting
perpetually and forever
a renaissance of wonder
and I am waiting
for a rebirth of wonder
and I am waiting for someone
to really discover America
and wail
and I am waiting

a renaissance of wonder
My Analysis of The Poem
Lawrence Ferlinghetti wants a revolution to happen in America because it's the first step to a renaissance . He says Revolution that would get rid of the government and a cleansing of all America’s problems. To remake America like it should have been. After each stanza except the last one he ends it with “a new rebirth of wonder.” In the last Stanza he ends it with “a renaissance of wonder. Before the renaissance was the Medieval age also known as the dark ages that rose a revolution within the Western Roman Empire. The Western Roman Empire had fallen due the revolution thus beginning the renaissance. He also wrote about getting rid of the government's and really discovering America.

The Book I Read This Semester
Book Ladder
Eon was a book about a girl named Eona who pretends to be a 12 year old boy named Eon in order to train to become a dragoneye. In the book girls are forbidden to learn how to fight or use magic. Also in the book there are dragons 1 for every animal in the Chinese callender. These dragons posses mystical powers and pick someone they think has potential and gives them powers. The mirror dragon had chosen Eona. Its a really good story I plan on reading its seqeul Eona next semester. I know im not a strong reader I only read about 33 pages a week. This shows me what I need to work on next semester.

The Purpose of Art
The Purpose of Art is to make the world feel emotions. Things like Comedy, TV, Music, Paintings, books, Dramatic Plays they all play a part in today's emotions. Comedy makes people laugh, TV is a big influence on what we talk together about as a society and so does music. Paintings help capture events or emotions as well do Dramatic Plays. For example when I was doing my Fine Art piece with a twist. When I was looking at the fine art pieces I got a little bored. So I thought I really like to laugh so I tried to implement something into the art piece that made me laugh. So I took the self portrait of Peter Paul Rubens and I drawed him In UCLA jacket. I thought it was funny. Another example would be when I'm feeling down I try to listen to some upbeat music like trap music. It helps me feel better and I get lost in the music. Art is a way that helps us express our emotions and to pick us up when were down.
Favorite Chicano Park Mural
This mural is meant to change with a shift in perspective. If you only look at the mural from the front you only see one part of the mural but if you look at it from a different view you can see that there is more to the mural then what meets the eye.
