UC Prompts
Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you.
Prompt one:
When I was in elementary school Id feel so stupid and would always have a rough time with school. I'd barely would be passing my classes. When I was in second grade they found out that I had A.D.D. So I was prescribed concerta a drug designed to help me focus in class. I remember the first time I took it. I went to math class and they gave us a sheet to do well I use to always have to rely on friends to help me with the assignment. They wanted to work by themselves this time. So I went solo and I finished it before they did. I was happy and that was the day I found joy in math. During class we would play this game with multiplication. It's like duck duck goose except the person going around the circle is battling each person to get the answer right first. I would go around the circle the longest because not many people could beat me. Still today math class is something I look forward too. Math is the only class that I don't feel like My A.D.D holds me back. I don't know why but math just ADD’s up.
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
Prompt two:
In colleen’s class we had to write creative writings. We had a choice between writing a play, a poem, or a short story. I decided that I would write a short story. We were put into groups. My partner was Diego. We interviewed each other asking questions to get ideas based on partner's answers. Well I took little details from Diego interview and I twisted them into a different story. I had issues writing it. I had Ideas but it was hard to find the right words. I kept working on it and realized with the help of Nikki that my story was going to be way too long. I mean my story still ended up being way too long but it would have been double the amount of pages and words. So I looked at my conflict in the story and added a quick solution that would still fit my story. I took a week longer than the rest of the students but I was proud of my story. I wrote about 5 full pages and went over twice the required amount of words. This was my first writing piece that I was proud of.
What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?
Prompt three:
My greatest skill I would have to say is my ability to work with computers. Which is not a big deal nowadays. I mean a 3 year old could operate a iphone to get to their favorite TV show. Most of my life I worked with computers I started when I was 5 years old. I started working on Mac’s. And then moved on to Microsoft windows. I went to a Middle school where practically all my assignments, all my notes, and projects were all online. If you ever seen a college lecture where everyone has their computers open and taking notes that's what my classes looked like except smaller and the teacher paused from time to time. For notes we basically were making presentations because we had to turn them in for credit at the end of the week. So it was either you learn how to use a computer or your grades will suffer. Same concept here just slightly different. The difference here is not all of our work is on the computer. But it has consequences I don't practice my handwriting as much and I can't read my own handwriting. It’s hard for me to do a timed writing and be proud of it. I can't write fast and my computer has consumed a large part of my life.
